Growing up in Shepparton, Victoria

Shepparton, the regional centre of the Goulburn Valley in northern Victoria, is where Campbell was born in 1989. It is orchard and fruit-canning country, about two hours by road north of Melbourne, and two rivers, the Goulburn and the Broken, pass through it.

Most of his childhood happened outdoors. He rode dirt bikes, fished the Goulburn, went camping up on the Murray and played football. He has barracked for Essendon his whole life.

He says the town handed him two rules he still works by. Turn up and put the effort in, and people will stand behind you. When something breaks, it is yours to fix. His childhood in Shepparton has a page of its own.

The plumbing trade and the 2009 matter

After school Campbell learned the plumbing trade. He spent his early working years on commercial building sites, including the Mount Tamborine Hospital job in Queensland.

During 2009 he was on the payroll of another business, which was later found to be trading in stolen Telstra copper cable. Campbell worked there as an employee; he was not the one running it. Because of that job he became part of the police matter against the business, which Wodonga Magistrates Court dealt with.

He gives his own account of that year, and what he took from it, on the lessons page.

Solar business owner on the Gold Coast, 2008 to 2014

Campbell opened International Solar Solutions in 2008, with the Gold Coast as its base. Australian rooftop solar was growing fast then, helped along by government rebates and feed-in tariffs, and the company sold and fitted systems through that boom.

At its largest the business employed about 40 people and had completed over 300 installations. Beside it ran International LED Lighting Solutions, along with a third company, Green Energy Corporation of Australia. Across the group, Campbell is credited with over 6 MW of solar generating capacity.

In 2011 he passed day-to-day management to others so he could concentrate on a resort renovation in Bali. Under that management the business collapsed. Campbell came back, shut the company and refunded its customers.

In 2015 Queensland's Office of Fair Trading began court action against the directors over payments made in 2013 and 2014 for installations that never happened. The court fined Campbell, and he paid restitution. He sets out the figures on the lessons page, and the business itself has an International Solar Solutions page.

Hotelier in Kuta, 2011 to 2014: Troppo Zone Puri Rama

Kuta's Puri Rama Resort was his next purchase, made while he was still in his early twenties, and he gave it a new identity: Troppo Zone Puri Rama Resort. Bali had been a favourite place since boyhood holidays with his family.

He refurbished all 88 rooms, put in pool bars and took on about 80 local staff. The resort became one of the best-known Bali stays for Australian schoolies, the school leavers who travel to mark the end of Year 12, and it was sold to them as an exclusive schoolies package.

A sale in 2014 ended his time as owner. The resort still operates under different management, and some of the people who worked there in his time are still on staff.

Running Troppo Zone is where Campbell picked up Indonesian and learned how business gets done in Indonesia. He says both have underpinned everything since. More detail is on the Troppo Zone Puri Rama page.

Bali villa owner since 2014

The resort years led into a second Bali business. Since 2014 Campbell has owned and managed a group of holiday rental villas on the island, let through Airbnb and other booking sites.

One local team has looked after the villas from the start. They kept trading through COVID, a period when international tourism to Bali almost stopped. See the Bali villa portfolio, and the note on keeping Bali villas running through COVID for how that stretch was handled.

Eco Boss and what the hard years changed

Eco Boss traded from 2013 to 2017. Its products were a nanotechnology cleaning range plus Cig-Arrête tobacco smoke detectors, which it distributed in Australia for the UK maker Radal Technology.

In 2015–16 the company fell into a dispute with Radal over the licence agreement. By then sub-distributors had also seen the wholesale prices, and together those two problems broke the business model. He decided to shut the company, which was deregistered in 2017.

Acting for 11 licence holders, the Office of Fair Trading brought charges against Eco Boss and both its directors. They pleaded guilty. Fines and restitution followed in 2018, and the matter is closed. Campbell gives the full figures himself on the lessons page.

Looking back, he treats 2015 to 2018 as the turning point in how he runs a company. The rules he now applies:

  • Two signatures. Every company he runs needs two signatories on its bank accounts.
  • Lawyers before money. Distribution, agency and sale agreements are reviewed by counsel before any payment is made.
  • Buyer funds stay put. Money paid by buyers is held by the developer named on the contract or in escrow. The marketing business never holds it.
  • Partners are checked. Development partners and their directors go through background checks before Kinnara lists a project.
  • No remote control. He no longer hands a business to managers he cannot supervise.

Market analyst: Alan Masters, 2016–2017

In 2016 he and a group of partners in Hong Kong set up Alan Masters. Subscribers paid for its technical analysis of cryptocurrency pairs. Technical analysis studies price charts and trading volume for patterns, rather than trying to judge what an asset is worth.

He ran the service until 2017 and left as the crypto market matured. The work got him interested in handing trading decisions to software instead of people, an idea he came back to with iQuant Fund. More is on the Alan Masters page.

Property and resources in Australia

From 2017 Campbell took on a series of roles in Australian companies covering property, civil works and mining. All four are still current.

Australasia Marketing, 2017–today

As Managing Director of Australasia Marketing, he oversees holiday rentals and property development across Southeast Asia, pairing building work with strategic investment. Read more on the Australasia Marketing page.

Prestige Pinnacle Realty, 2020–today

Prestige Pinnacle Realty, an agency selling high-end homes, has had him as Managing Director since 2020. The agency handles exclusive sales and trains agents to an advanced level in selling. The Prestige Pinnacle Realty page covers it.

Earthcon Civil, 2021–today

Campbell joined Earthcon Civil as a Director in 2021. Its civil works serve new developments, and one specialty is the precise cut that levels a house block before building starts. See the Earthcon Civil page.

First Nations Mining Australia, 2021–today

First Nations Mining Australia has had him as Managing Partner since 2021. Most of the explorer's ownership sits with First Nations people, and its work in Western Australia's Pilbara is carried out alongside the Yindjibarndi people. Michael Woodley chairs the company.

It works under exclusive native title, and it puts consultation on heritage, along with openness towards the community, at the core of its approach. The company's own team page says Campbell firmly believes profits made in Australia should stay in the country, and his job there centres on attracting financial and industry partners. The First Nations Mining Australia page explains the partnership.

iQuant Fund co-founder and Chairman

Campbell and Jason Noorman, together with other partners, co-founded iQuant Fund in February 2021. Campbell was its Chairman. Its machine-learning models were built for systematic research and trading in equities, covering over 20 exchanges.

It grew out of a group of traders who wanted their own strategies to run automatically. Membership of AWS Activate and Nvidia Inception supplied cloud and GPU capacity for training its models. A Series A round was announced in August 2024.

Kanebridge News interviewed Campbell about the business in June 2024, and the feature also ran in print in Kanebridge Quarterly. Describing the problem that started it, he said:

"We often found ourselves juggling multiple screens, analyzing vast amounts of data, and spending countless hours away from our families."

iQuant worked with institutional clients only, and this page is not financial advice. The iQuant Fund page has the rest of the story.

Kinnara founder, 2021

Campbell founded Kinnara in 2021. His co-founders were Nattaya Intarachooti, Julie Noorman and Jason Noorman. The company behind it, Kinnara Limited, is registered in Hong Kong. After a year of building in 2022, the platform launched publicly in 2023.

Kinnara is a property marketplace. It gathers what 76 partner portals list into one search across 44 countries, holds more than 25,000 listings and has upwards of 15,000 agents posting on it. Agents pay it no commission on sales. Kinnara markets and lists property; it does not build or own any of it.

Thailand is its largest market by listings, with Indonesia next and the Philippines making up the third of its main markets. Head office is in Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong, and regional teams sit in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Phuket, Da Nang, Quezon City and Balikpapan.

Most of the buyers it finds for Indonesian property are Australian. As founder and CEO, Campbell owns the strategy and the partnerships with developers, portals and governments, and he manages the Indonesian market himself.

The Kinnara page covers how the marketplace works, and the platform itself is at kinnara.asia. Two notes go further: one search across 76 portals and why Kinnara charges agents no commission.

Developer on Lombok: Kinnara Capital and Saraya, 2024

In 2024 Kinnara's shareholders formed a second, separate company to build projects themselves rather than market other developers' work. There are two entities: PT Kinnara Capital Indonesia, which is a PMA (foreign-investment) company, and Kinnara Capital Limited, registered in Hong Kong. Both share owners with Kinnara Limited without being its subsidiaries, and the two businesses work together under contract. Kinnara markets its projects just as it would any developer's. Kinnara Capital, with Campbell as CEO, works from offices in Balikpapan and Phuket plus a site office at Buwun Mas.

First up is Saraya Beach Resort & Residences. The plan puts 154 villas along the beachfront of a 3.7-hectare site at Sekotong in West Lombok. KRAM Space Architect of Thailand did the design, and the contractor appointed to build it is TSG Construction Indonesia. Design, pricing and contracts are complete, and a finished display villa, The Elysian, stands at Mandalika on the island's south coast.

Building that display villa changed the specification. Some locally sourced steel, concrete and electrical parts fell short of what Saraya needs. Steel and rebar are now brought in from elsewhere in Indonesia, the concrete mix was upgraded, and every villa will get a higher mechanical and electrical standard. A note looks at what The Elysian display villa changed.

Saraya will run as a hotel rental pool under one international operator. Kinnara Capital held a competitive selection among international hotel groups, and the winner will be announced when the agreements have been signed.

There are two ownership routes for foreign buyers: a building right (HGB) held through an Indonesian PMA company, or a lease for a fixed term. The guide to how foreigners hold property in Indonesia explains both, and anyone buying overseas should take independent legal advice.

The land at Buwun Mas was gathered one parcel at a time, and each purchase waits until the title is confirmed. Six neighbouring plots that are already settled now hold staff housing and a site office.

Speaking up over Marina Bay City in 2025

Companies controlled by Jamie McIntyre are the developers of Marina Bay City, a project on Lombok. Kinnara was its marketing partner. Buyers found their property through Kinnara, and their contracts were with the developer companies.

In October 2025 Campbell became worried about the developer's treatment of buyers. Kinnara made its first report to the Indonesian police in November 2025. Campbell refused to keep working alongside McIntyre, resigned his roles and pulled out of the project.

A campaign against him followed. It is the subject of Federal Court of Australia proceedings he brought against McIntyre, case number QUD 273 of 2026, and those proceedings are continuing.

Kinnara Capital's own land in West Lombok has no connection to Marina Bay City. Campbell's full account is published as his Marina Bay City statement.

Qualifications

Campbell has studied finance, credit and property alongside his business roles. The study was done during his career, not before it.

  • Mentor Education: Advanced Diploma of Financial Planning; Diploma of Financial Planning; Diploma of Credit Management; Certificate IV in Credit Management.
  • Connect Skills Institute: Diploma of Property; real estate licences.

Where Adrian James Campbell is now

Indonesia is home, and his work reaches across Southeast Asia. Day to day he manages Kinnara, and on Lombok he heads Kinnara Capital's projects, with Saraya the first of them. After about 15 years in the country, he does business there in Indonesian.

Outside the companies, he is working on a novel about the business of selling property. His life away from work is on the off-duty page, and the village side of the Lombok work is on the community page.

He is open about a record that holds failures as well as wins, and he prefers that people hear both from him:

"I've built things that worked and things that didn't. I'd rather you read both from me than one of them from someone else."

Shorter answers to the questions people ask most are collected in 40 questions about Adrian Campbell.
