Where Sekotong and Buwun Mas are
Sekotong lies on the arm of land in Lombok's south-west corner that reaches out toward Bali. In Indonesia's system of local government it is a kecamatan, or district, within West Lombok Regency.
Buwun Mas is one of the villages, or desa, inside Sekotong. Its area runs down to the southern side of the peninsula, where beaches such as Pengantap face the Indian Ocean.
The district is not far from Lembar, the port where ferries from Bali come in. Even so, it feels well away from the busier parts of the island, such as Senggigi in the north-west or Kuta Lombok in the south.
Beaches and calm bays on the Sekotong coast
Sekotong's coastline is best known for white sand, clear water and calm, sheltered bays. Those bays are easy places to swim, paddle or anchor a small boat.
Resorts are few and far apart, and long sections of beach have no buildings on them at all. That quiet is a large part of the appeal.
On a clear day, Bali can be seen across the strait, and the shallows close to shore are clear enough for easy snorkelling.
For a developer, the same quiet is both the opportunity and the responsibility. A resort here will be one of very few, so how it is built and run matters to the whole coast.
The southern Gili islands: Nanggu, Sudak and Kedis
A scatter of small islands lies off the Sekotong shore, and visitors reach them by boat. Among the best known are Gili Sudak, Gili Nanggu and Gili Kedis.
They have little in common with Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno and Gili Air, the busy trio off Lombok's north-west coast. The southern islands are smaller and much less developed, and they are popular for swimming and snorkelling trips.
The note on Gili Nanggu, Sudak and Kedis covers each one in more detail.
Buwun Mas village and Pengantap beach
Within Buwun Mas are stretches of the southern coast, Pengantap beach among them. This is where Kinnara Capital, the company where Adrian Campbell is CEO, has its land, its staff housing and its site office.
Pengantap was also the setting for a Saraya community day on 27 June 2026. Kinnara Capital runs these days with village leaders, families, contractors and its own staff, and they give people in the area a direct line to the team. The giving back page has more on that work.
Kinnara Capital hires its local team from nearby villages. Once Saraya opens, its restaurants, spa, beach club and villas will need many more people. The company also donates supplies to nearby schools.
Why Sekotong has been slow to develop
Two problems held the area back for a long time: getting there, and proving who owns the land.
Road access. Roads onto the peninsula have long been a constraint. For Saraya, the plan includes widening the access road by 8 metres over the 350 metres leading to the resort frontage.
Land titling. A great deal of Sekotong's coastal land has stayed in the same families for generations, and much of it has never had a modern certificate. Before anyone can build, ownership has to be established, and that is slow work.
The upside of slow growth is a coastline that is still quiet, within sight of one of Asia's busiest holiday islands.
How Kinnara Capital assembles land in Buwun Mas
Over several years, Kinnara Capital has bought land in Buwun Mas one parcel after another, rather than in a single large purchase.
There is a practical reason for that. Ownership along this coast is spread across many families, so a site big enough for a resort has to be pieced together from many smaller plots, each with its own history.
Every parcel is confirmed in court and at the BPN land office, so the title is clean before anything goes up on it. Powers of attorney held by the company allow each certificate to be registered in its name as soon as it is issued. The guide to foreign ownership on Lombok explains why that matters.
Six adjoining plots are already settled and in use, carrying the site office and housing for staff. The main site is set aside for the resort.
Saraya on the Sekotong coast
Saraya Beach Resort & Residences is planned as 154 villas on the beachfront, in six designs from 60 to 220 square metres. KRAM Space Architect of Thailand drew the plans, and the building contract has gone to TSG Construction Indonesia.
Each building will stand 100 metres back from the shore, which keeps the beach itself open. The villas fall into four view groups for the rental pool: garden, beachfront, ocean view, and a combined sunset and mountain view tier.
Who Sekotong suits
Sekotong is not a nightlife destination, and it does not try to be. It suits people who want water, boats and space more than bars and shopping.
For Campbell, that is the point. His wider reasons for building on the island, from visitor growth to new direct flights, are set out on the page about why he builds on Lombok.
